According to bdnews24.com, the police suspect that the official died while going to the bathroom at some point during the night.

The mission officials alerted local authorities after Narendra failed to respond from inside his room. His body was recovered by a police team that entered the room.

The Chattogram Metropolitan Police said the body would be handed over to the Indian mission for completing due formalities.

A case of unnatural death would be registered after the post-mortem and a detailed investigation will be carried out.

The incident comes in the backdrop of tense diplomatic relations between New Delhi and Dhaka after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government in 2024.

After her ouster, Hasina took refuge in India and an interim government led by anti-India Mohammad Yunus took over the reins.

Under the Yunus-led interim government, attacks on minorities, specifically Hindus, saw a sudden rise, leading to the deterioration of bilateral ties.
